People often ask, “What did Dr. Montessori mean by Cosmic Education”? Susan Mayclin Stephenson has now given me a simple but profound way to answer this question. She does it in the very organization of the book. The first half is about key child developmental issues in the various age groups: Birth to 3, 3 to 6, and 6 to 12+. I read on and found my answer to Cosmic Education for each of those age groupings. In general Cosmic Education is an aide to help children find a place for themselves where they can develop and at the same time make the world a better place. The author is quite specific about the contributions of each of these age groups. She is offering an education that fosters ways from babies to adolescents to make good contributions for a better world. Parents and educators would benefit from this book, as I did.

The information shared in these pages can be helpful to parents and grandparents, to those interested in the early months and years of life, in educational neuroscience, environmental education, emotional intelligence, for anyone working with children and young adults. Older children and young adults today, more than ever before, need to know that their individual interests and talents are important; they need to know that they can be valuable, contributing, and happy members of a family and social group not just “someday,” but now! This has already been translation into Romanian, Spanish, and German; Ukrainian, French, and Portuguese translations are in progress.
