Being asked about how/when I began to lecture on Montessori I remembered that the first time was in the fall of 1971 at the AMI training center in Northern California. I was so very nervous that I had to sit outside the lecture room and breathe deeply for some time to garner the courage. I had been asked by Miss Lena to share the primary language lessons from the AMI training center in London (where I had studied the previous year) that were different than in training centers in the USA.

Miss Lena was one of the teacher trainers who actually worked with Dr. Montessori, so, with David’s permission, I share this interview. Continue reading

A MONTESSORI SCHOOL CONSULTATION
The night before the official Montessori work Simona and I drove high into the hills overlooking the city to visit the beautiful The Romanian orthodox Cetățuia Monastery. It was a quiet, still, starry night and no one was around, but when we entered there was a service going on, just a few monks taking turns reciting prayers, all dark except for a few candles and candelabras glowing the icons on the walls. Return to Romania, Fall 2022

THE SCHOOL
My good friends Catalina Ivan (head of the Montessori School of Iasi) and Simona Nicolae (excellent teacher now becoming an AMI teacher trainer) drove six hours from Iasi to Bucharest to meet me late at night at the airport, after a long flight from San Francisco via Paris.
